The Eight Sabbats

Merry Meet! If you are here because you're a beginning Pagan or you like to learn what the Eight Sabbats are you've come to the right site. :) Let's begin at Samhain.

Samhain - Oct. 31

Samhain is the Sabbat of remembering the dead. What Hallowe'en is all about... literally. But, instead there are no stereotypes that the commercial scene has given to Pagans and Wiccans (Witches). It is also the New Year for Wiccans and Pagans. A new year for the spirit and mind, not literally the next year. So, Nov. 1st is like a new day. Samhain is one of the most interesting Sabbats.

Yule - Dec. 21

Yule is the equivalent of Christmas. It's a jolly Sabbat, and a time of family. Each sabbat is a time of renewal, and this one is like Christmas. Each tradition has it's own way of celebrating this sabbat (like all the others) and the way this sabbat has it's myth. Holly and mistletoe is like any other christmas thing, and in Yule it's no different.

Candlemas - Feb. 2

Candlemas is the sabbat about welcoming spring. It is to shed off the ways of the cold winter and welcome the warm ways of spring. Spring rains, and fresh grown grass in spring.

Ostara - March 20

Ostara is equivalent to the commericialized Easter. Now, in mid-spring, eggs brightly painted, with pink, light green, and light blue colours, Ostara is a festive holiday.

Beltane - May 5

Beltane is the last sabbat of the three (Candlemas, Ostara, Beltane) in celebration of spring.Beltane is the transformation from Spring into Summer. It is not summer yet, but the Earth begins to change and make way for summer. Warm thoughts and thanks for spring are done. Crops will soon flourish, and bountiful rays of sun are on their way.

Summer Solstice - Jun. 21

Summer Solstice is the beginning of summer, the transition and transformation has begun into summer.. The Earth's warm peak. This day is also the longest day of the year, with more sunlight the sun is seen as a powerful symbol of life. Summer solstice is a symbol of success and passion for life and love. Seen in most trads, it is seen as a "male power" holiday, but females can obtain the power and  show their strong side through this. Summer Solstice is the mark of Summer.

Lammas - Aug. 2

It is  an in-between stage of Summer and Autumn. Preparation for Fall take pace, thanks for summer and spring are given and momentos of the previous holidays. The voice of the Earth speaks through, and humanity shall prepare for what She will bring. Prepare with new things, just little ol' things, if you wish.

Autumnal Equinox - Sept 23

Fall has begun, and the leaves most likely have begun to change colours. The harvest season has begun and the fruits of labour are now brought in. Thanks for the food the Earth has provided is given, and more preparation for what is to come is done now. With Samhain around the corner, things for that Sabbat can be done, and baking and a feast to celebrate the fruits of labour is an idea.

YAY! There's the eight sabbats summarized by me. Phew! Well, I hope it gives you a better idea, and a clue into Paganism. Seems okay, doesn't it? I hope you get the point, that Paganism is a harmless religion. Because, that is the truth!
